چکیده

(ABSTRACT) This work presents the modeling and analysis of EMI and thermal performance for switch power supply by using the CAD tools. The methodology and design guidelines are developed. By using a boost PFC circuit as an example, an equivalent circuit model is built for EMI noise prediction and analysis. The parasitic elements of circuit layout and components are extracted analytically or by using CAD tools. Based on the model, circuit layout and magnetic component design are modified to minimize circuit EMI. EMI filter can be designed at an early stage without prototype implementation. In the second part, thermal analyses are conducted for the circuit by using the software Flotherm, which includes the mechanism of conduction, convection and radiation. Thermal models are built for the components. Thermal performance of the circuit and the temperature profile of components are predicted. Improved thermal management and winding arrangement are investigated to reduce temperature. In the third part, several circuit layouts and inductor design examples are checked from both the EMI and thermal point of view. Insightful information is obtained. Acknowledgements iii Acknowledgements I would like to express the deepest and sincere gratitude for my advisors Dr. Fred C. Lee and Dr. Dan Y. Simple Success with Conducted EMI and Radiated EMI for LMR160X0

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) is an unwanted effect between two electrical systems as a result of either electromagnetic radiation or electromagnetic conduction. EMI is the major adverse effect caused by the application of switch-mode power supplies (SMPS). In switching power supplies, EMI noise is unavoidable due to the switching actions of the semiconductor devices and resulting disconti...

Evaluation of DC/DC switching power regulation with small-scale integrated inductors for PET/MR

IRCCS Fondazione Stella Maris and Fondazione Imago 7, Calambrone, Pisa, Italy We present a feasibility study that has been carried out to determine the best power regulation strategy for the PET front-end electronics of the trimodal PET/MRI/EEG TRIMAGE scanner. Conventional power regulation strategies cannot be applied to PET/MRI because standard switching regulators stop working in presence of...

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) in Power Supplies

Increasing power density, faster switching and higher currents forces designers to spend more time both considering the effects of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and debugging a design that has EMI problems but is otherwise complete. This paper explains the different types of EMI and their coupling mechanisms and the existing EMI regulations. The most frequent noise sources, transmission pa...

A Scientific Approach to EMI Reduction in Switching Power Supplies

The increasingly larger scale of integration in electronic systems has demanded a corresponding increase in the density of the power supplies of these systems. To some extent, this demand has been met by resorting to higher switching frequency power converters (-1 MHz). One of the major problems with high frequency switching converters is the generation of radio frequency signals which may inte...
